Our Story

About Rooted School Indianapolis

Rooted School Indianapolis is a public charter high school that launched in Fall 2020 in partnership with Eastern Star Church’s The ROCK Initiative.

At Rooted, we are driven by a simple but powerful mission: to close the financial wealth gap within our students’ lifetimes. We believe schools can be the starting point for generational change.

Our Purpose

We exist to provide our students with personal pathways to financial freedom.
Through our unique, personalized curriculum model, we partner with local companies to ensure every student graduates with:

  • Work-based experience
  • Industry-recognized certifications
  • A high school diploma
  • A clear path to post-secondary education

Our promise is that every graduate will leave Rooted with a job offer in one hand and a college acceptance letter in the other.

Tuition-Free and Open Enrollment

Rooted School Indianapolis is a tuition-free, open-enrollment charter school serving students across Indianapolis. We proudly abide by the enrollment policies outlined in our Student and Family Handbook, which guarantee equal access for all students.

  • We are open to all residents of Indianapolis.
  • There are no academic, financial, or demographic requirements for admission.
  • Student testing is conducted solely for instructional placement purposes.
  • When applications exceed available seats, a random lottery determines placement.
  • Families are never charged for anything related to their student’s education, except for uniforms and occasional field trips.

CEP Program: Free Meals for All Students

Rooted School Indianapolis participates in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program. This means all students receive free breakfast and lunch each day, regardless of household income.
Our participation in CEP reflects our belief that no student should ever face barriers to learning due to hunger or financial hardship.

Commitment to Equity and Inclusion

Rooted School Indianapolis does not discriminate in admissions or any of its programs or activities on the basis of:
intellectual ability, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation or preference, gender identity or expression, ethnicity, national origin or immigration status, disability, or identification as an exceptional student.

Enrollment Process

All enrollment is handled centrally through Enroll Indy up to the published enrollment deadline. After that date, enrollment may be completed onsite at Rooted School Indy.

Special Education Services

Rooted School Indianapolis provides a free and appropriate public education for all students, including those requiring special education services as mandated under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
